Cover Shot: First Light at First Point

Early light spilled over the headland, turning the waves to liquid gold. First Point was quiet, almost still, except for a clean set rolling through. I stood on the sand with my camera, watching each wave peel with perfect shape. The sun had just cleared the ridge, and the sea caught every spark of light.

The shot I call Gold Stacks came from that morning. Golden lines stacked down the point, one behind the other, with barely a surfer in sight. It’s rare to see Noosa this uncrowded, especially when the waves are this good. Everything lined up — light, swell, and a calm, empty lineup.

I’m stoked that Gold Stacks has landed the cover of Salt Magazine for their Spring 2021 edition. It’s a photograph that feels as much about the moment as the scene itself — that quiet between sets, the smell of salt in the air, the warmth of the first sun on your face. If you’ve ever stood on Noosa Main Beach at dawn, you know exactly what I mean.
