Cover Shot: First Light at First Point

Woke up early that day — with no plan, just one of those mornings where sleep slips away before the sun's even thinking about rising. Grabbed the camera, chucked the gear in the car, and rolled down to Noosa Main Beach. First Point was small but the conditions were perfect.

The swell wasn’t huge, but the shape was there. Long, golden walls wrapping around the point, clean as you like. That soft spring air — still crisp, but not cold. The kind that makes you breathe a bit deeper and stay a bit longer.

Ended up down near the groin, watching the sun climb and light everything up. Caught this one frame of a few waves breaking perfectly — golden spray flying, soft shadows curling through the face. No crowds in the shot, just the waves doing their thing. That’s the image that ended up on the cover of Salt Magazine for their Spring 2021 issue.

Always a bit surreal seeing your work out in the world like that. Just being in the right place, at the right time, with the light doing all the heavy lifting.

And sometimes, if you're lucky, you get to share one on the cover.
